Owner and Executive Chef
Momofuku Restaurants

Chef David Chang is the owner and executive chef of the Momofuku restaurants in New York.

He was born and raised in Arlington, VA and attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT. Following graduation, Dave attended the French Culinary Institute in New York City, during which he began his culinary career at Jean-George Vongerichten's Mercer Kitchen (NYC). Eventually, Dave landed a spot as part of Chef Tom Colicchio's opening staff at Craft (NYC). In 2003, Dave moved to Japan, where he studied at various kaseki, izakaya and ramen restaurants.

After returning to New York, Dave opened his first restaurant, Momofuku Noodle Bar in the East Village (August 2004). He followed with Momofuku Ssäm Bar in August 2006, a bistro-style restaurant, and then Momofuku Ko in March 2008, the smallest of his restaurants with only 12 seats. His most recent endeavor, Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar (November 2008) showcases sweets by pastry chef Christina Tosi.

Dave was named 'Best New Chef' by Food & Wine magazine (2006), 'Rising Star Chef of the Year' by the James Beard Foundation (2007), 'Chef of the Year' by GQ magazine and Bon Appétit magazine (2007), and 'Best Chef, New York' for Momofuku Ssäm Bar by the James Beard Foundation (2008). In 2009, Momofuku Ko was awarded two stars by the Michelin Guide and was named 'Best New Restaurant' by the James Beard Foundation.
